At the risk of sounding like the elderly – I think there’s too much noise these days.
To be clear; I’m not talking about decibels, but noise that adds clutter to our lives. This noise is the sound that compels you to listen whenever there’s a free moment. It is disguised as our phones, our television, our social media accounts or the constant screaming that is advertising everywhere.
It’s a conversation that were involved in, though we never asked to be included. While I don’t believe that the noise is fundamentally negative, I think we should be aware of it.
These places are what would have one been referred to as “down time” and take the shape of things like waiting rooms, standing in line, being stopped in traffic (let’s be real here, I’m sure we’ve all been there) and so on.
Today I did something that broke the mould for me; I sat by the shore and watched the sun rise. No noise – just me, present in the moment. It was a magnificent experience and one I suggest doing if it’s been a while since you saw the day begin. Once I had experienced the moment I captured it to share with you; not to prove anything – but in the hope that you’ll find some quiet from the noise too. Even if it’s only for a moment.
